Trottel have been making their own unique blend of psychedelic rock since 1985 and have released a lot of material and nearly every record is quite different and they have gone from having female vocals, to instrumental to male and female vocals but they have made a lot of instrumental music and in 2001 they changed the name to The Trottel Stereodream Experience and released a really cool and spacey CD of the same title. Since 1993 they have been releasing their material on their own record label. Very unique band. / Aural Innovations /

Trottel: Fluid CD

This is an absolute delight, totally uncategorisable though that probably won't stop me trying. On the back of the sleeve you can find the words, 'Interesting Music for Curious People', that alone piqued my interest. It's an accurate description. Monodream are Trottel's latest project. A cursory scan round their website gives you a brief history and, frankly, intrigues me. I want to hear more from this label. Heck, I want to hear it all. This cd is such a diverse mix of styles that giving you a plain description will not do it justice yet I must try to draw you in, convince you to try these extraordinary sounds.

There are folks roots here, from all around the world not just their home, Hungary. There are tracks on here that would sound great at a folk festival, you could see them going down a storm at Womad or even Sidmouth, I can see them dancing in the streets to 'Monodream or, especially, it's companion piece, 'The End of the Dream'. Yet other parts of it have a naive indie charm, the 'home' keyboard sound and vocals on 'Ikaros' are Pram-like or Stereolab-esque. Then again, 'Movement' is a chill out moving into great ethnic pounding drums (and hint of didg, keyboard derived I'm guessing as no player is credited). The love of music is evident. The whole project has such joy, such vitality.

The love of the true power of music is also apparent in their dedication on the sleeve. I'd like to thank them for sending this to us. If you have an ounce of curiosity in your soul seek this out.

Reviews

The end of the dream“.

Trottel Monodream is another Hungarian progressive/psychedelic rock band that is relatively unknown in the US.They have been around since 1989 and have toured extensively throughout Europe:Hungary, Italy, Austria, Germany, Spain,Switzerland, Denmark, Holland, Belgium, France, Great Britain, Poland, andCzechoslovakia.Fluid is the band's ninth release.Consisting of violin, keyboards, guitar, drums, and bass, Trottel Monodream create and play progressive rock music with a Hungarian flair. Some songs are sung in Hungarian, others in English, andstill others in wordless chanting.Fluid contains six songs:Fluid, Ikaros,Monodream, Movement, The End of the Dream, and Spider on the Clock.Jean Luc Ponty style violin playing is prominent throughout the disk, along side strong guitar and keyboards. This is excellent music and sure to be a hit with the progressive rock enthusiast. / Henry Schneider US /

...psychedelic treatment of sound, psychedelia like an open-minded attitude more than a 'category' of music: acustic, electric, electronic potions, sonic alchemies, magicatmospheres and musicians like explorers in a creative kaleidoscope....

Fluid (absolutely unbeliveableelectro-tribal-ethno-space-rock mix ... a sound I've never heard before!)

Karpat Mobius: Kuruclemez CD

' This whole production is light years away from both today 's unforgiveably down-trodden cultural standards and from those who perpetrate or unquestioningly serve these standards. '

' Cziranku is a talent like Hendrix but he can't find his place in the center of the hungarian musical scene. '

' John Landau said in '75: I have seen the future of rock and roll. He is called Bruce Springsteen. I say in '99: I have seen our ancestor's music in the future. It's called Karpat M0bius. '

Trottel Stereodream Experience

This is the 10th release by this very interesting Hungarian group. I have only heard one other of their CDs and it was great. This can be compared with Korai Öröm and Vagtazó Halottkémek. It lies somewhere in between the two groups, not as rhythmic as Korai and not as frantic as Vagtazó. A wide range of Eastern instruments are played and experimented with and the male lead vocals play a major role in this band. The songs are sung in English on this CD. Some great building space rock stuff though on this Stereodream experience. By track 3 the CD is really grooving and there are some great synthesizers. The CD is full of great rich lush sounds and productions, which is highlighted in the great "House Of The Witches. Quite an excellent new CD, showing a continued fresh and interesting sound and evolution. Aural Innovations #20 (July 2002)

TROTTEL MONODREAM

Your Sincere Innocence / 1990 / The Final Salute / 1991 /, The Same Story Goes On / 1993 /, The Stolen Garden / 1995 /, ….
